A possible modern day twist of Utopia and the views of people in our society on utopian society and lifestyle.
I saw this video and it made me stop and think about what I would consider to be a Utopian or perfect society. I do not think of a perfect society the same was Sir Thomas Moore does, do you?
Jessica, this video was so interesting! I too, think of a perfect society, very differently than More proposes in Utopia. In this video I agree diversity should be included and it would be nice if everyone and everything was nice, but I do not think it is realistic. I also think we have different views on what a perfect world would be because we live a different, modern society and are trying to change different problems that we face today, which were different from More's problematic society.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there could ever be a perfect society because everyone wants something different. Some of those things are at direct odds with each other. A perfect world for everyone would mean we'd have to get rid of everyone who didn't agree with the majority in a massive and ongoing social/political cleansing.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure some of you have read Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwel. That's an example of a "perfect society" that ends up being perfectly rotten on the inside because not everyone agrees with the system. Another example is Soviet Russia. Thousands and thousands of people died in camps because they didn't agree with (or someone said the didn't agree with) the government that was supposed to be creating a perfect society. Certainly no Utopia there.
